Element Settings & Properties

Every element in your model can be configured. Select an element (or a connection) on the canvas and use the settings tab in the right panel to change what it is and how it looks. The options you see depend on the selection: a task has different settings than an event or a connection.

General

  • Name: the text shown on the element. You can also rename in place: select the element and press F2, or use the rename action in the element toolbar.
  • Color: available for groups and pools/lanes; other BPMN elements use the theme colors.
  • Related Process: link an element to another process in your catalog. Once linked, an open button appears that navigates to the related process.

BPMN Type & Markers

For tasks, events, and gateways the BPMN section of the panel lets you change the element type without redrawing it:

  • Task type: switch between Generic, User, Service, Send, Receive, Script, Manual, and Business Rule tasks.
  • Task markers: mark a task as Loop, Parallel Multi-Instance, Sequential Multi-Instance, Ad-hoc subprocess, or Compensation.
  • Event timing & type: convert an event between start, intermediate catching, intermediate throwing, intermediate boundary (interrupting and non-interrupting), and end, and change the event type within each timing.
  • Gateway type: convert gateways between exclusive, inclusive, parallel, complex, and event-based gateways.

Some specialized elements have a fixed function and cannot be converted; the panel tells you when that is the case.

Value Stream Mapping

In value stream models, tasks can be converted into VSM shapes from the Value Stream Mapping section, for example Supplier, Customer, Process Box, Inventory, Kanban Post, or KPI / Metric. Process Architecture Process Architecture Available with a Process Architecture seat or higher. Only seats on this plan or a higher one can use this feature. Compare plans

Image

Attach an image to a task or event so it appears on the shape. Images come from the artifact library, so artifacts must be enabled for the process (Process Architecture seat and above). See Artifacts.

Connections

Select a connection to edit its Name, Arrow type (control, information, or transportation), and markers (for example Kanban or phone on VSM connections). From the connection menu you can also reset a connection’s route to automatic with Auto layout, or restore a moved label with Reset label position. To change where a connection starts or ends, drag its end onto another element.

Documentation, Filters & Data Mappings

More element behavior lives on the element toolbar and the other tabs of the right panel:

  • Documentation: attach descriptions and roles (RACI) to an element, or open full process documentation.
  • Filters Process Intelligence Process Intelligence Available with a Process Intelligence seat or higher. Only seats on this plan or a higher one can use this feature. Compare plans : configure element and connection filters to scope the data shown on the canvas. See Using Filters.
  • Data mappings Process Intelligence Process Intelligence Available with a Process Intelligence seat or higher. Only seats on this plan or a higher one can use this feature. Compare plans : manage which dataset columns map to an activity. See Mapping and Unmapping Activities.
