Process Settings

Process Settings hold process-wide configuration that simulation and analytics use: named constants you can reference, and processing time overrides for activities whose real duration differs from the data. Everything here applies to the whole model, not to a single element.

What you can configure

  • Constants — reusable values such as SLA thresholds, costs, or business rules. Each constant has a type: Number, Text, Boolean, Duration, or Date/Time, and settings are organized into groups (for example General).
  • Processing time overrides — per-activity values that replace the auto-estimated processing time: useful when you know an activity takes longer or shorter than the statistical estimate. They live in a dedicated Processing Time Overrides section.

Managing settings

  1. Open the process you are working on, then click the Settings icon in the left rail — its tooltip reads Process Settings.
  2. Edit a setting inline under its group — number, text, boolean, duration, and date/time settings each have their own control. Remove setting (trash icon) deletes one.
  3. Add setting opens a small form with a Setting Name and a Type (Number, Text, Boolean, Duration, Date/Time); Save adds the setting.
  4. In Processing Time Overrides, type a value per activity — leave a row on Auto to keep the estimate — pick a unit (ms, sec, min, hr), and press Enter or click away to save. Clear override removes an override again.

Changes save as you work; new simulation runs and analyses use the updated values.

How they affect simulation

When you run a simulation, the engine combines your process settings with the resource pools and distributions configured in the simulation itself. Overriding processing times at the process level is a fast way to model “what if” scenarios (for example, “what if every approval takes half as long?”) without editing each activity.
